Fellow Fraters,
It has been quite awhile since you have been updated so here is a bit of a run down. So far this semester we have taken 11 gentlemen. Recruitment is in a bit of a new format this year, instead of the formal recruitment we were all used to, we have 365 recruitment. Which takes out the week where perspective members visit each house. This year recruitment is left entirely up to the men of each individual house, this means that we can hand out bids all year long. In the same token, low numbers can be blamed solely on the individual houses themselves.
Homecoming was also very much improved this year, we had a tent by the football field with enough pork steak to last us till the end of 2010. With a small reception afterwords at Martin Park. Alumni attendance was not as high as we would have liked to see it but, it is something to strive for next year.
A few of us have been steadily going to the Lagrange youth center, and we will be helping host a Halloween Party/Dance on Friday night as well as a CSTO event here on campus. We have been in cahoots with Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization to start mentoring some children in Quincy, we hope those plans come to fruition.
Finally, Tuesday will be the kick off of our annual Pumpkin Sales. We bought around 35 pumpkins and will be selling them outside the Gladys Crown Center for 72 hours.

Here’s the final update of events that have happened in the past 2 weeks
A tremendous effort has been done to raise the overall house GPA this year. As a result, we ended the year with a little over a 3.16 average, obtaining first place overall fraternity standing. Hard work and dedication was visible in all aspects. Great job guys!
We are currently in our 3 week session which involves a more intense curriculum. We initiated 3 members last week, with formal initiation this sunday.
Today was the all campus awards banquet. Prytanis Lance Smith recieved recognition for outstanding emerging leader of the year. Histor Patrick Parsons recieved recognition for CSC spirit.
Plans are already underway to attend Conclave is New Orleons in August. That should be an exciting time to meet fellow fraters.
Homecoming is early this year, I believe it is the 3rd weekend in September but I am not 100 percent sure. I’ll try to get an exact date by August.

Daniel
On Friday April 17th the men of the Zeta Pi chapter went on a camping brotherhood. We drove about 20 miles west of Canton to J-Mac’s farm. We arrived about 6:30 P.M. and decided that we should get the tents up and start a fire before we did anything else.
We got the tents up and the fire going and began to roast hotdogs and brats when Justin Shawe’s cell phone rings. Its J-Mac and on his way to go get more…camping items , he had gotten his truck stuck. So we loaded up Shawe’s truck with guys and tried to get the truck unstuck. With all of us pushing and Shawe’s truck pulling we hardly moved J-Mac’s truck. It was stuck good and is still stuck there too! After that big deal we started driving back to the campsite when some people met us on 4-wheelers drinking beer and asked us what we were doing. Well J-Mac told them who he was and whose farm we were at and they ended up being J-Mac’s uncles neighbors. Well we made it back to the campsite covered in mud.
We sat around the fire talking, chanting and having a good time till some of the guys who weren’t staying had to go back to campus. Well, the guys at the campsite realized we were out of camping supplies and needed to go and get some more. This was 2:00 in the morning and nothing was open, but by God if we could see the lights, they were open! Well we didn’t get anymore supplies but we did sit around the fire and talked until about 3 A.M.
We all went to bed to come back to campus the next morning. It was a fun time and even though everything did not go as smoothly as we wanted to we all had a good time and enjoyed it. We are hoping that we can have another camping trip in the summer or fall of this year. And we have definitely learned from our mistakes.

A Message from President Lance Smith
Fellow Fraters,
It is with great honor today that I am the one to address you as the Prytanis of the Zeta Pi Chapter. Fifty years ago today the Offices of the Grand Chapter saw it fit to grant our chapter a charter. It is something that I, as well as hopefully you, am eternally grateful for. The house has came along way in those 50 years. Today things are looking great, but we are not content. This house has helped all of us in our mental, moral, and social development, and we need to continue to help men grow. We are positioned to do that for many years. We have never been as diverse as we are now and that is our strength. We take men from all wakes of life and make them better men. Whether it is by teaching them the value of giving back to the community, teaching the importance of education, or just by being a better friend, we can reach all men.
With this being said, I would like to propose a toast. A toast to the principles of our beloved fraternity. A toast to love that binds our hearts with the sturdy chords of fraternal affection. A toast to charity that is impulsive to see virtues in a brother and slow to reprove his faults. A toast to esteem that is respectful to the honest convictions of others and that refrains from treading upon that which is sacred to spirit and conscience. A toast to 50 great years. A toast to the 618 men who have been initiated into the Zeta-Pi chapter. A toast to the hundreds more who will initiate into the house. And finally, a toast to another 50 great years.Thank you all so much for the time, effort, and resources you have supplied us with. We cherish your involvement more than you will ever know.
YITB,
Lance Smith “Lock” 597
Hello Again, Here’s what’s been happening up on the hill. This week is Greek Week. The theme is Greek Strong, with focus on unity. Instead of being paired with one house, we are paired with all 3 during the course of the week. Greek Olympics is on Saturday. Events include the human pyramid, Double Dare, tug of war, and races of various sorts, as well as numerous other events. We also have several nominations in for Greek awards for 2008, so good luck to all the nominees!
This past week we were involved in Intramural Floor Hockey Championships. We finished 2nd. It was a great season and hopefully we’ll win next year.
Please help us welcome our 3 newest Associate members Brett Low, Peter Alexander, and Corey Meyer. Brett is a member of the Baseball team. Peter is a member of the Basketball team. And Corey is actively involved in religion on campus. Look forward to their Bio’s next week!
Formal is quickly approaching. Plans are underway to have the dinner and then the dance. The dinner is Prime Rib and Beef Tips with green beans, Mashed Potatoes, and rolls. Hotel rooms may be booked thru the hotel (Americas Best Value Inn) at 217-224-7733, however, the majority of the house will be coming back to campus after the dance. So if you plan on staying, your best option would be to stay in the Canton Comfort Inn. Their number there is 573-288-8800. Look forward to seeing you all!
That is also alumni weekend so there will be a softball game on Sunday at the cotton bowl field.
YITB,
Daniel
