House GPA and other happenings

Posted by pparsons in Uncategorized

Things have been going great so far this semester! One of the big things that we are still striving to improve is our already dramatically improved house GPA. from fall semester of 2007. Fall semester 2007 we had a discouraging 2.35, which has seen a .35 increase in the last year. We are not at all satisfied with this GPA yet and are taking precautions to better ourselves. We have established mandatory study tables for anyone with a GPA lower than a 2.5 Monday and Thursday nights.

Also we had two fraters attend the Regional Leadership Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. Nick Still and Justin Miller learned immense amounts of information on how fraternal matters should be conducted. They have some new ideas about how to do our rituals and how recruitment should be ran. What they learned should be a huge asset to contribute to us overall as a community.\

This week we had a flashlite tag with the Chi Omegas. Most of the new members went and said they really enjoyed it. It was held in the library.

We had a visit from the regional director Justin Donnhelly on wednesday night. After a meal at Buffalo Wild Wings, we came back to the house and talked about fundraising and ways to improve the house, as well as new programming.

Next week is finals week so everybody will be studying before thanksgiving break.

I don’t have too much to say this week

This past week we held the annual 72 hour pumpkin sale. All proceeds went to our St. Judes Up Till Dawn team. We raised 158 dollars! There were 35 pumpkins, I think most of them sold. One even sold at 3 in the morning! We couldn’t have a fire pit up there this year so we all huddled around a space heater…until it died. Luckily it never got too cold.

Saturday was the last Home game. The Blue crew consisting of a few actives, and its newest member Wildcat Willie, showed their full support

Friday night, we had a halloween mixer with the Tri Sigmas. It was well attended. We also have a flash lite tag mixer with the Chi Omegas this friday.

Mark your calendars, April 2nd thru the 5th we will be sponsoring an Alumni weekend. Plans include a softball tournament, the Red Carnation Ball, and a Barbecue. Other events will be posted at a later date.

The basement is looking really good. We’ve finished the study room. All thats left is putting carpet in, which will be a dark green. We also have painted the downstairs lounge Dark blue and Cream. We have a new-to-us stove plugged into the wall, so every now and then you can smell food. That is just the first addition to the kitchen, which will start hopefully in 2 weeks.

Pumpkin sales kick off today at noon! Jonathan McReynolds and myself went down to Grafton IL this weekend to pick up 35 pumpkins. 15 are carved, the rest are being sold uncarved, or carve yourself. Its going to be really cold this week.

Saturday Night we had a mixer with Chi Omega. There was plenty of fun to go around. All the actives and pledges that went dressed in costume. Awards for costumes were given out at the end of the mixer, after a round of Limbo and Bobbing for apples. The Chi Omega’s had food already prepared, which was really good!

Until next week,

We  have started remodeling the house. This weekend we painted the psych lab, which used to be used for storage and was white walls and really nasty. We painted it burgandy and beige. It looks really good, There are pictures on the photo’s tab.

The room is going to be used as study room with computers and everything, and maybe down the road a house mom room. We’re also working on a dance room, re-doing the storage room beside the chapter room, taking all the shelving out and painting it black and building black lights and bar like james made. its gonna look really good when its done.

Then after that we finally have the kitchen approved so it should be done by the end of november. Bryan Hawks Grandpa is building cabinets and we have a stove, countertop, sink, dishwasher. so things are really in the works here, and i think we’re repainting both the basement lounge and the upstairs lounge. The main goal is keeping the house and not letting it be demolished.

Pumpkin sales start next week, i’ve called around to a couple pumpkin patches but since its been really wet up here there’s not a whole lot to choose from. We also have competition with CPC (campus programming council) because they are having a pumpkin carving thing during one of the nights we’ll be selling pumpkins.

I think thats all for now.Talk soon,

          New program in the works!

Posted by Rob Hammel in Uncategorized

A new program is underway to keep everyone informed on whats going on with TKE and its members at Culver Stockton College.  A few recent graduates and undergrads have been tossing around ideas and we have come up with a program we’re calling “Sponsor a Teke”.

The basic idea of the program is to allow Alumni members to sponsor an undergrad member. In turn the alumni will receive regular updates from the undergrad member via their own blog.

We’re hoping to launch this program at the start of the spring semester. If you would like more info or have any ideas, please email Rob Hammel @ rhammel@eosinc.com
